Sun Gallery Makerspace

We provide a space for creative pursuits using technology, while building community through creativity.

What we’re about

We are Hayward’s local community Makerspace & Art Studio! We provide a space for creative pursuits where you can use new technologies such as 3D printers, a laser cutter, screen-printing, vinyl cutter, high tech design software for making art, products, and inventions, LED electronics, crafted wood projects, a tool shop, and so much more.

Outside of this creative space is our outdoor courtyard, which includes an event stage, bistro tables, sun shades and string lighting, all surrounded by beautiful murals and trees. You are welcome to hang out and work in this café style experience, enjoy a coffee, or hear & watch local musicians and performances.

Our goals for this makerspace include providing a space for new innovations and creative pursuits, workshops and classes for adults & kids, 3D modeling and electronics, and emphasizing DIY (do-it-yourself). We hope to bring people to work together and come up with new ideas, which can lead to entrepreneurship, and instill a sense of community between our neighbors, businesses and organizations.

We are funded by the Hayward People’s Budget and by our wonderful volunteers from the Sun Gallery community. We will offer monthly memberships soon in order to support our operations, however we offer free use as well, and you are welcome to come by and use our space whenever we are open!

How we are funded

We are funded by the City of Hayward People’s Budget grant in 2022, and with additional generous furniture donations from Greener Source. A big THANK YOU to the community of Hayward for voting for us! Without your vote, our makerspace wouldn’t have been possible. If you would like to see our original proposal, you may download it here, or watch a video about the proposal.

Thank you!
