Sun Gallery's Curatorial Committee is announcing a

Call for Art for our April - June Exhibition,

Planet Earth: The Beauty of Life


This is Sun Gallery’s 6th Annual Exhibit on Climate Change and the Environment.

Exhibition Dates: April 5th - June 1st, 2019 (Earth Day is Monday, 4/22)

Artists Reception: Saturday April 13th from 1-4, 2019

The deadline for your work and name to be on our postcards and in our press release is 9am Friday, March 8th, and the final deadline for consideration of your work in the show is 11:59 pm Friday, March 22nd (if space is still available) Exhibit Themes: Earth, Water, Environment, Animals, Children, Plants, Landscapes, Humans, Climate Change, Arctic, Joy and Beauty

Artists will be notified if their art has been selected. If chosen to be part of you will be sent a contract and inventory list: If you are a Sun Gallery member, the show fee will be reduced for this special environmental show to $50 (for up to 4 pieces)

The fee includes a set of postcard invitations and a hanging fee for up to 4 pieces not to exceed 12 sq. feet in wall area. You may pick up invitations prior to the event at the gallery, or if you want them mailed to you, please add another $5.00. The fee for non-members is $65, and includes all of the above, and membership from this exhibition onwards for the Calendar year 2019.

Additional work can be submitted for a fee of $10 per piece, as space allows.

Artwork can be any media including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, glass-work, ceramics, drawing, and assemblage. The submission of multimedia pieces is also encouraged, including photography, digital collage, short films (5-10 min.) and soundscapes.


Submission of Works:

Please email your contact information along with your jpeg images of your submissions. JPGs should be no larger than 8” in height and 300 dpi maximum. Please name files using the following format: firstinitial.lastname.title.jpg.

We need 300dpi images for press releases and postcards, so if you have digital images that size, please send them. Please send us your photos, either by email sungallerydirector@gmail.com, subject line: Planet Earth or mail to 1015 E St., Hayward CA 94541. Please make checks payable to Sun Gallery. Artists must identify their work with a label attached to the front of the art with: name, title of the art piece, medium, and price. This info will be used for the wall labels. All wall mounted work must be wired and ready to hang, matted and framed, or edges gallery wrapped and finished. No special installation requirements and no ceiling mounted works are eligible.


We reserve the right to refuse accepted work that arrives damaged, is too fragile to be exhibited or was misrepresented in submission. You will need to bring a completed inventory sheet with the same info as above, and a signed contract with your fees. A one page artist statement or bio will be displayed in a show binder if you supply us with one. Sun Gallery does not provide art insurance on your work. We will take every precaution to ensure the safety of your pieces, however we cannot be held responsible for theft or damage to your work while on the gallery premises. Each artist may provide their own insurance. Sun Gallery keeps a 30% commission on any sale of artwork. No artwork may be removed during the exhibition.


College and High School Entries: The Sun Gallery welcomes entries from both College and High School students. The entry fee will be waived but only one entry per student, please.


Deliver uncrated, ready to hang or show, artwork to the Sun Gallery on Sunday March 17th from 12:00pm - 3:00pm and Monday March 18th, from 11:00pm – 2:00pm. Art Pick Up will be Sunday June 2nd from 12-3 and Monday June 3rd from 11-2. Participating artists will be providing finger foods or beverages for the Artists Reception (or a $5 donation)


**** Artists chosen for this show will automatically be eligible to have 2 of their pieces displayed at the O'Lague Galleria at Hayward City Hall which will be on display from August 2nd - Oct. 3rd. There is no additional fee for the O'Lague Show and it will be offered to you at no charge should you choose to participate. It is not required that you show in the O’Lague Galleria, but if you choose to be in that exhibit it will be required that you are able to personally bring and pick up your work to and from the Galleria at the the following dates and times (drop off at the O’Lague is on August 2nd from 9-10am and pick up at the O’Lague is on Oct. 4th from 9-11am) For the O’Lague show, no special drop off or pick up dates or times are available.
