Dear Sun Gallery Members and Artists at large:

At this time the Sun Gallery's Curatorial Committee is announcing a Call for Art for our April - June Exhibition:


"Faster Than Expected"

This is Sun Gallery’s 7th Annual Exhibit on Climate Change and the Environment

We are expecting a lot of response to this exhibit, so please apply early.

Dates of Exhibition: April 3 - June 6 , 2020

(Earth Day is Wednesday April 22nd)

Artists Reception to be held Saturday April 11 

from 1-4, 2020

Inspiration tags for the exhibit: Earth, Water, Environment, Animals, Children, Plants, Landscapes, Humans, Climate Change, Arctic, Fire, Floods, Habitat, Global Warming, Tipping Point, Extinction

Artists will be notified on an ongoing basis if their art has been selected for this show. If your work is chosen to be part of the show you will be sent a contract and inventory list: If you are a Sun Gallery member, the show fee will be reduced for this special environmental show to $50 (for up to 4 pieces)

DROP OFF DATES if your work if selected: 

Sunday March 15 or Monday March 16 from 12-2

The fee includes a set of postcard invitations and a hanging fee for up to 4 pieces not to exceed 20 sq. feet in wall area (If you have a larger piece, please contact the Director/Curator to see if we can accomadate the art) You can pick up the invitations prior to the event at the gallery, or if you want them mailed to you, please add another $5.00. The fee for non-members is $65, and includes all of the above, and membership from this exhibition onwards for the Calendar year 2020.

Additional work can be submitted for a fee of $10 per piece, as space allows.

The deadline for your work and name to be on our postcards and in our press release is 9am Friday, March 6, and the final deadline for consideration of your work in the show is 11:59 pm Friday, March 20 (if space is still available)

Artwork can be any media including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, glass-work, ceramics, drawing, and assemblage. The submission of multimedia pieces is also encouraged, including photography, digital collage, short films (5-10 min.) and soundscapes.

Submission of Works:

Please email your contact information along with your jpeg images of your submissions. JPGs should be no larger than 8” in height and 300 dpi maximum. Please name your files as follows: firstinitial.lastname.title.jpg. You may also submit via CD using the same format.

We need 300dpi images for press releases and postcards, so if you have digital images that size, please send them.

Please make checks payable to Sun Gallery. Artists must identify their work with a label attached to the front of the art with: name, title of the art piece, medium, and price. This info will be used for the wall labels. All wall mounted work must be wired and ready to hang, matted and framed, or edges gallery wrapped and finished. No special installation requirements and no ceiling mounted works are eligible.

We reserve the right to refuse accepted work that arrives damaged, is too fragile to be exhibited or was misrepresented in submission. You will need to bring or mail a completed inventory sheet with the same info as above, and a signed contract with your fees. A one page artist statement or bio will be displayed in a show binder if you supply us with one. Sun Gallery does not provide art insurance on your work. The Gallery will take every precaution to ensure the safety of your pieces, however, we cannot be held responsible for theft or damage to your work while on the gallery premises. Each artist, if they wish to have it, needs to provide their own insurance. Sun Gallery will keep a 30% commission on any sale of artwork. No artwork will be removed from the exhibition during the show.

College and High School Entries: The Sun Gallery welcomes entries from both College and High School students. The entry fee will be waived but only one entry per student, please.

Participating artists will be providing finger foods or beverages for the Artists Reception (or a $5 donation)

**** Artists chosen for this show will automatically be eligible to have 2-3 of their pieces displayed at the O'Lague Galleria at Hayward City Hall during the Summer months . There is an additional admin. fee of $15 for the O'Lague Show should you choose to participate. It is not required that you show in the O’Lague Galleria, but if you choose to be in that exhibit it will be required that you are able to personally bring and pick up your work to and from the Galleria (or you can arrange for a friend/family member to bring your art)

For the O’Lague show, no special drop off or pick up dates or times are available (show dates, drop off times, pick-up times and Reception day for the O'Lague exhibit will be announced soon)
